The dunes of Maspalomas are located on the south coast of Gran Canaria. They have been protected since the year 1897. They were formed by sand from the bottom of the ocean, during the last ice age, when the wind blew the sand towards the coast of the island. 
It is a great place for walking. Just drive to Maspalomas / Meloneras or take the bus to Faro Maspalomas and walk direction the ocean. On the right hand side you will find the boulevard of Meloneras where you can walk along all different kind of restaurants. If you go to the left that is where the dunes are starting.
Straight at the beginning there is the protected area where lots of birds stop before carrying on with their journey. Many bird spotters come when the time of the year is right to watch the at least 90 different species.
If you continue your walk along the coastline, you will pass many sun lovers, with and without bathingsuits.
The walk will take about an hour to reach Playa del Ingles.
Do not forget to put sun cream on.
De duinen van Maspalomas liggen aan de zuidkust van Gran Canaria. Ze zijn beschermd sinds het jaar 1897. Ze werden gevormd door zand vanaf de bodem van de oceaan, tijdens de laatste ijstijd, toen de wind het zand naar de kust van het eiland blies.
Het is een geweldige plek om te wandelen. Rijd gewoon naar Maspalomas / Meloneras of neem de bus naar Faro Maspalomas en loop richting de oceaan. Aan de rechterkant vindt u de boulevard van Meloneras waar u langs allerlei verschillende restaurants kunt wandelen. Als je naar links gaat, beginnen de duinen.
Direct aan het begin is er het beschermde gebied waar veel vogels stoppen voordat ze verder gaan met hun reis. Veel vogelspotters komen wanneer de tijd van het jaar goed is om de ten minste 90 verschillende soorten te bekijken.
Als u uw wandeling langs de kustlijn voortzet, passeert u veel zonaanbidders, met en zonder kleren aan.
De wandeling duurt ongeveer een uur om Playa del Ingles te bereiken.
Vergeet niet om u goed in te smeren met zonnecrème.
